Point Brake's new website! Under construction.
1. Driving Licence & Fitness to Drive
Licence Check: The pupil must hold a valid UK provisional or full driving licence. You must present your physical licence to your instructor on or before your very first lesson.
Eyesight: You must be able to read a standard UK car number plate from a distance of 20 metres (with glasses or contact lenses if required).
Medical Conditions: You must notify your instructor immediately of any changes to your health, vision, or medical conditions that could affect your driving licence or fitness to drive.
Impairment: For your safety and the safety of the public, your instructor reserves the right to cancel a lesson immediately if they suspect you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs (prescribed or otherwise), or are excessively tired. In this event, the full lesson fee remains payable.
2. Payments & Block Bookings
Payment Timing: All single or weekly lessons must be paid for at least 48 hours in advance via bank transfer. Cash payments may be accepted on the day only by prior agreement.
Block Bookings: Block bookings must be paid in full within 24 hours of the lesson dates being agreed and sent out by the school via email, text message, social media, or phone call. If payment is not received within this window, the provisionally held dates may be released to other pupils.
Expiry Date: All prepaid block lessons must be redeemed within 6 months of the purchase date. Any unused hours after this period will be forfeited and are non-refundable.
Price Changes: We reserve the right to change lesson prices. Active pupils will be given at least 4 weeks' notice of any upcoming rate alterations.
3. Cancellations & Punctuality
48-Hour Notice Policy: If you need to cancel or rearrange a booked lesson, you must give your instructor at least 48 hours' notice.
Late Cancellations: Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice will be charged in full, or deducted from your prepaid block balance. No exceptions can be made to protect the instructor's working schedule.
Instructor Cancellations: Your instructor reserves the right to postpone a lesson at short notice due to vehicle breakdown, extreme weather, examiner availability, or illness. If this occurs, a mutually agreeable alternative time will be arranged, and no fee will be charged.
Lateness: If you are late, the instructor will wait for a maximum of 15 minutes at the agreed pickup point. If you do not arrive, the lesson will be cancelled and charged in full. If you arrive late, your lesson will still finish at its original scheduled time.
4. Practical Driving Tests
Instructor Agreement: You must not book a practical driving test without prior agreement from your instructor to ensure both they and the tuition vehicle are available.
Test Day Hire: Booking a test does not automatically guarantee the use of the school vehicle. The hire of the car for a driving test is typically charged at our standard 2-hour lesson rate to cover the pre-test warmup, test duration, and return trip.
Refusal of Car Use: The instructor reserves the right to withhold the use of the tuition car for a test if they believe you have not reached a safe, test-ready standard.
DVSA Test Cancellations: Point Brake Driving School is not liable for costs, losses, or inconveniences resulting from practical tests cancelled or postponed by the DVSA (e.g., due to bad weather or examiner illness).
5. Instructor & Pupil Responsibilities
Instructor Code: Your instructor is bound by the DVSA Professional Code of Conduct. They commit to providing a clean, smoke-free, roadworthy, and dual-controlled vehicle that is fully insured for driving tuition.
Distractions & Attire: Pupils must wear sensible, flat footwear suitable for operating car pedals. Mobile phones must be turned off or completely silenced during the lesson to eliminate distractions.
Vehicle Damage & Liability: While the instructor makes every effort to guide you safely using dual controls, the pupil is legally the driver of the vehicle. If a pupil causes damage to the vehicle or a third party through deliberate recklessness, negligence, or ignoring a direct instruction, the pupil may be held liable for the insurance excess or repair costs.
6. Data Protection & Digital Media
Privacy: Any personal data collected (such as your address, phone number, and driving licence details) will be kept securely and processed in strict accordance with UK GDPR.
Dashcam Recording: For safety and insurance validation, the tuition vehicle may be fitted with an internal/external dashcam that records video and audio during lessons.
Marketing Photos: With your explicit permission, your instructor may take a photograph of you holding your pass certificate after your test to celebrate your success on our website or social media channels. You have the right to decline or request removal at any time.
